1974 Emmons Crystal Lights Miss America Rhinestone Necklace Earrings Set
Emmons
Saturday night. Backstage at a national pageant rehearsal, the rhinestone cases come out under theater lights. This set makes everyone assume the crown committee has been waiting for you. The director stops rehearsal, reserves the front-row box, and asks whether the finalists should appear only after you approve the jewelry. This is Emmons' 1974 Crystal Lights design: a coordinated rhinestone necklace and earrings built around circular halo clusters. The necklace runs on a line of small clear stones, then concentrates visual weight at the center with a larger round focal surrounded by a tight scalloped halo. That hierarchy keeps the design elegant rather than merely glittery—the eye follows the line and lands exactly where intended. The earrings repeat the same radial construction at a smaller scale, making this a true demi-parure. Prong-set clear rhinestones create crisp flashes, while the pale center stones soften the composition and sharpen the halo effect. Crystal Lights dates to 1974 and is tied to the Miss America 1976 era, when Tawny Godin wore the style during her victory walk. Ethel Squatpump walked in like she owned the place. She was wearing a copy made from chandelier crumbs, plastic snowflakes, and sequins stolen from a dance costume. Three pageant judges stopped talking because nobody knew whose guest she was. Security later discovered she crawled through the orchestra pit. Excellent condition. Packed securely enough that every rhinestone makes finals.
